Wiesner, David. Sector 7. New York: Clarion, 1999. Print.

Summary: This book is all pictures, there are no words so the summary I come up with could be different from what somebody else comes up with. From what I got out of the pictures a young boy is on a field trip with his classmates to the Empire State Building he gets separated from his class in the observatory and is taken by a cloud to Sector 7, the place where clouds are made. He makes drawings that get turned into a clouds and gets caught and kicked out. The cloud takes him back to the Empire State Building where he returns to his group where the clouds he designed can be seen in the sky on the bus back to the school.

Activities: Have students draw pictures of things they would like to see turned into clouds. When they are done the can be placed hanging from the ceiling.

Have students write their interpretation of the story. Or explain that they have been given a book of illustrations and they need to finish the design of the book by adding words.

Themes: Weather, field trips, sky scrapers, clouds

Questions: Why do you think the author decided to make just pictures and no words?

How would you interpret the story?
